In the fall of 2007, I decided to take a singing course in the Evening Division at Juilliard. Not only was the class an interesting experience, but I suddenly found I was free to walk the halls of Juilliard and listen to the music coming from behind all the classroom and practice room doors. I started spending an extra hour each week before my class listening to the incredible vocal and instrumental music drifting into that hallway. I had to find a way to contact those players and singers and incorporate their professional needs into my life as a photographer. And so began this website. Over the past 7 years, I have met and photographed many fine classical performers, teachers and students. My contact with them and their music has inspired a new, more sophisticated style in my portraiture and has enriched my life immeasurably. My goal with these artists is to explore not just their exteriors but to capture some of their inner life: their intensity, their search for meaning and new interpretation, their struggles and even their humor. I feel that the pictures on this site succeed, for the most part, in capturing those essential parts of a classical artist's personality. If you read the testimonials on the site, I think you will see that the pictures work not just for me but for the artists also. Thanks for your interest and I hope you enjoy the portfolios.
